Balboa Park San Diego

Looking for a family friendly festival in San Diego? Well, you are in luck!  For two days a year Balboa Park offers an amazing festival of lights for San Diegons to enjoy with family and friends.

Balboa Park is already a site to see when coming to San Diego and on the two days a year when “December Nights” takes places, the park becomes even more beautiful and eventful. Participating museums and theaters located within the park, which usually charge admission, open their doors and offer free tours and shows.

This is a festival for ALL AGES in case the museums packed with children does not fancy you, then the Christmas Beer Garden should cheer you right up. Grab a warm glass of whiskey and hot chocolate and laugh with friends under the Christmas lights. With an average of over 350,000 people in attendance each year it is no wonder why it is the place to be.

Two examples of great attractions that offered complimentary admission; The Japanese Friendship Garden and the San Diego Museum of Art.

Negatives of attending December Nights is the parking and the crowds. It may be difficult to find parking which is why it is recommended to take a form of public transportation or expect to pay $20 for parking. The herds of people can be a bit intimidating and a turn off for most but to partake in the festive spirit of San Diego, it is worth it.

As a Midwesterner living in San Diego, I do miss the holidays and the seasons, I have no idea what month it even is as the weather is always the same.  However, Balboa Park during December Nights will remind anyone that it is the holiday season once you see the lights and festive spirit.
